Shane sat up in the chair again. He listened to Audible audiobooks. He breathed on his own with only the trach collar passively supplying wall oxygen. He sat in the chair until 5:30pm.

A therapy golden retriever named Happy made a visit to the ICU. She came to see Shane. Shane was napping but when he saw Happy he briefly lifted his left hand and put it on Happy’s head and pet down the soft fur around her neck.

4:00pm #

Marc and Anita came in and Marc said he was going to take Shane cart witnessing. Shane mouthed the word “perfect.” That was the second time he tried to speak. The trach made it impossible for him to use his voice for any words yet but the fact he knew what to say was promising.
