Day 21 — Sunday, July 7, 2024

Even better than yesterday.

Shane got good rest today. Watched the July Broadcast, a few shows he likes and got to hear about Ramapo from Solon. He really seemed to be interested in that. When Solon’s iPad buffered during a video…Shane reached up and swiped it, to move on to the next picture. ☺️

No physical therapy today, but he made the most of the extra rest

Speech therapy came for the speaking valve and swallowing test but he was sleeping so decided to do the test tomorrow morning after a night’s sleep.

Surgeons visited with only positive comments.

He says thank you to the nurses when they take care of something for him. He felt very calm today. Was more comfortable with the trach and O2 tube.

There’s hardly anything to report for vitals, all good 👍

Up to that moment, Shane hadn’t grasped the idea of time. Anything I told him seemed to him like it was happening right then. When I told him that the electric conduit would be installed at Ramapo, he put his feet off the edge of the bed and started to try to get up and go, as if he thought I was telling him that he should do it right then. It was like there was no past or future tense for him. Everything was in that moment.

Then someone visited him who he had trouble with in the past. I didn’t say anything about the trouble they had. But as soon as they walked in the room, he said, “Oh, next week?” He quickly came up with an idea to postpone it. :) The doctor had said whatever Shane wanted most, would come back to him first, so it’s not surprising he rediscovered time right when he needed it. I told the guest, “Thanks so much for coming. your visit prompted Shane to rediscover time!”

At another point, he reached up and put a hand on my shoulder. And seemed to blow me a kiss when I was across the room.
