I remember how much I looked forward to giving Shane rides to meeting and field service. One time, the fabric on the roof of my car unglued and started hanging a bit. I had plans to fix it over the weekend. But I had already made plans to take Shane and Vanessa to the midweek meeting. I called Shane ahead of time to apologize and explain the situation. He said, “No worries, I’ve the the height. I’ll keep it up for you while you get it fixed. Besides you should’ve seen the cars we got in to when were in Central America.” Shane was good at making others feel comfortable. During our car rides, he would often talk about Vanessa and his parents , and how much he cared for them. He also talked about playing dominoes with friends from our congregation. He loved playing dominoes! But what I especially learned from Shane is something he would often tell me “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” He truly lived by those words. I look forward to seeing my friend in the new world.
