  • When we served at the branch in Mexico City, I was learning to play the song “Light In A Darkened World” on the piano. Shane listened one evening and recommended I break up the eb instead of playing all the notes at once. It sounded much better.

  • I also remember that Shane made a comment a few times about a house on Sterling Mine Road. It was a run down house that looked like a hoarder lived there. It was the last piece of private property adjacent to Ramapo. When he would drive by he’d say, “I wanna buy that house and turn it into an Airbnb for people visiting Ramapo.” I recently heard that the house went up for sale and now it’s part of the Ramapo property. Next time we see Shane, he’ll be happy about that.

  • Another time, while he was recovering in Helen Hayes, I played the Original Songs and he closed his eyes. When we reached a song that he’d missed because of his accident, he opened his eyes and said, “Is that one of ours?” He knew he hadn’t heard it before, but he liked it.

Other things Shane would say:

  • Team work makes dream work
  • That’s the God’s honest truth
  • Bunrabs (his childhood way to say rabbits)
  • Bugawolf (his childhood way to say an ugly girl)
  • Spring Peeper Frogs (a tiny chorus of frogs you can hear in the early spring)
