I’ll never forget the time when I was a young, overwhelmed white guy in Chimalhuacán and Jehovah sent a dynamic duo to my congregation—a couple who showed me how to be patient and adaptable and how to avoid eating old chicharrones without hurting anyone’s feelings.
I have so many good memories of working on my first elder body with Shane, carpooling with him to meetings, and spending time together in Bethel. He was always real, always ready to listen, and always had a good attitude about whatever he was doing.
It’s a funny little memory, but the first time I said something to Shane and he reacted “Oh, bro!” (after months of only hearing “Ay, hermano!”) was somehow really comforting and it’s still something I remember often.
It’s hard to think about him being gone for now, but we can’t wait to see him again, and hear that “Oh, bro!” reaction again when we catch him up on whatever he missed.
